Descrption

Mercury is a silver white shiny heavy liquid with stable chemical properties, insoluble in acids and alkalis. Mercury can evaporate at room temperature, and mercury vapor and its compounds are often highly toxic (chronic)

Application

The most commonly used applications of mercury are in the manufacturing of industrial chemicals and in electronic or electrical products. Mercury is also used in thermometers, especially in measuring high temperatures. More and more gaseous mercury is still being used in the manufacturing of fluorescent lamps.

It can decompose gold from its minerals and is often used in gold mines.
